About MRT
Madison Research Technologies, LLC.
Madison Research Technologies (MRT) is an innovative, technology-based, entrepreneurial enterprise located in Madison, Wisconsin.
It was formed in May of 2009 by Donald Lynam and Robert Tweed when research they were conducting in the field of healthcare associated infections revealed that more than 100,000 deaths occur annually in the U.S. as a result of hospital patients acquiring various infections that are unrelated to their primary condition. Additional probing revealed that these infections have a tremendous financial burden to the healthcare system, totaling as much as $45 billion a year. The vast majority of these infections occur through hand contact between healthcare workers and patients due to lack of adherence to published hand hygiene guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control.
With this knowledge, attention was focused on creating a technology-based solution. After numerous sessions with infection control professionals, equipment providers and physicians, the core technology of the SafePatient™ hand hygiene compliance monitoring system was created. These ideas were further refined and presented to potential investors, including WPS Health Insurance, which is now a corporate funder of MRT.
SafePatient is currently in its initial testing phases. While the technology is primarily focused on hand hygiene compliance, the potential for this technology to move into other areas of patient care are also being explored.
With SafePatient, MRT is dedicated to providing the healthcare industry with a dynamic new approach to improved patient care.
